Dr. William Robin Robertson

Early in the morning of December 22, 2020, Jesus took his hand and led him home.

Robertson was born in Memphis, Tennessee on November 12, 1927 to the late John Robertson and Lillie Taylor. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Parkway Gardens Presbyteri­an Church.

In 1955, he married the late Evelyn Marie Thomas. To this joyous union was born one daughter, Robin. Robin had two children, William Robin and Elizabeth Christina, whom they both loved dearly. He was a dedicated caregiver for Evelyn throughout their 44-year marriage. After his first wife’s passing, he found companions­hip with Alma Jolly Hawkins and was married for 18 years.

He received his undergradu­ate degree from Pine Bluff AM&N and his Master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati. He earned his Ed. D at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He started out as a teacher in a one room school in Wonder, AR and taught at Porter Junior High. He finished his career as a Clinical Psychologi­st for the University of Memphis. During his tenure at the University of Memphis, he was awarded the Dr. Martin Luther King Award. He was loved by his students and co-workers alike.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Johnnie Barlow and Delores Jackson, his brother David Robertson and wife Evelyn.

He was an avid outdoorsma­n, loving to fish and hunt. He loved sports and was a high school football and basketball referee. He was a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. He was a faithful family man and a good friend. Kind and generous, he never knew a stranger.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 18 years, Alma Robertson, daughter Robin Mitchell, two grandchild­ren, William Toler (Lisa) and Elizabeth Simpson (Joshua), one great-granddaugh­ter, Evelyn Camille, sister Katie Mallory and devoted nieces Karen Janese Boozer(ron) and Cheryl Mallory, 3 stepchildr­en, Edgar, Carolyn and Andrew Hawkins (Toya),10 step-grandchild­ren and a host of family and friends.

Graveside services will take place on Monday December28, 2020 at 12:30PM in Historic Elmwood Cemetery.
