Kathy Wesche Bacherig is a retired Registered Nurse. She decided that she was ready to downsize to a smaller house, with a smaller yard. Previously she had lived in Plantation in Collierville, in a house with over 4,700 square feet of living space. She decided she wanted to live in a newer house with less upkeep and maintenance. To begin her house search, Bacherig contacted Ray and Susan Wallace of The Wallace Home Team, REMAX Experts, LLC.

“Susan and Ray also lived in Halle Plantation,” said Bacherig. “They had sold hundreds of homes in the area. I originally called Ray to see if he could recommend a window man. Ray came over and I mentioned that I really needed to sell my house. My husband had died in 2007 and now

I felt like the house was too big for me. Also, it had a big yard and It had become too much to take care of by myself. Ray took it from there and my home was sold before it ever went on the market. Ray and Susan sold it before it was listed. They are wonderful realtors and care so much about their clients. We have formed a very close friendship from working together. We looked at three properties, all which were in Collierville. I really wanted a zero lot. I had watched this area being developed and it was our next stop. I actually bought my lot the day we first saw it. I liked that the subdivision would have only 33 homes. Additionally, I loved the plan I picked out and that the area was gated. I got to select my fixtures and colors as I worked with the builder.”

Bacherig decided on a traditional, detached twostory house in the Chadwick Woods neighborhood in Collierville. She paid $563,672 for over 3,300 square feet of living space, 4092 total square feet if you count the floored attic. The home has five bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms.

“I have two bedrooms down and two bedrooms up,” said Bacherig. “The fifth bedroom is a very large room and I’m using it as an upstairs living room. I also have a small loft and use it as a sitting room.”

Her home’s traditional styling features an open floor plan with gorgeous hardwood floors and vaulted ceilings. The gourmet kitchen blends custom cabinets, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. The master suite is downstairs with a master bath that offers a large shower, double sinks and a Whirlpool tub. There’s a separate dining room for entertaining and a breakfast nook for more casual meals.

“I really like the location of my new home,” said Bacherig. “The house itself is very livable, and being new, it is also very energy efficient. Also, I love having a screened-in porch. Upon moving in, I installed a sprinkler system and fenced my backyard. Other things are still in progress. The COVID-19 pandemic has really slowed down my ability to add some of the details I wanted, like artwork, lamps, bedspreads, etc. It seems so many companies are running behind or deliveries are delayed. But after living here for a little over a year, everything is slowly coming together.”

Bacherig said she also really likes her neighborhood, that it is reminiscent of where she grew up in Hein Park in Midtown.

“I grew up in a great neighborhood where everyone knew each other,” recalled Bacherig. “You could borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbors, or they would watch your house when you were away. And if you were sick they would check on you, bring food or take you to the doctor. My current neighborhood is the same way, a quality that I think is very hard to find. My area offers a relaxing escape with its small-town charm and is only minutes away from Collierville’s historic district. The location is great — you are close to Poplar Avenue and to I-385.”

“I love living here,” continued Bacherig. “My neighbors are really lovely, too. Everyone makes a point to get to know each other. Also, this is a very pet-friendly neighborhood and people are always out walking their dogs. We have ‘get-togethers’ in the community’s common area, which is like a little park. We enjoy sitting outside and visiting, socially distanced, or course. I also like living in a gated community because it provides me with a great sense of peace of mind.”
