One dead and five injured in 5 Memphis shootings
One person is dead and five others injured after five separate shootings across Memphis during the first two days of 2021.
Memphis police reported what may be the first homicide of the year Saturday morning. Officers responded to a shooting victim around 8 a.m. in the 5200 block of Flowering Peach Drive.
One male victim was located and was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.
The first reported shooting of 2021 took place in the early hours of Jan. 1. Memphis police responded to a shooting at 4558 Alamo Ave. at midnight, where two women had been shot by an uninvited guest at a house party.
Both women were taken to Regional One Health. One was in critical condition Friday. The other woman was noncritical, police said. No arrests have been made.
Police were on the scene of a shooting at 939 Getwell Road at 7 p.m. Friday, where one man was located and transported to Regional One Health in critical condition. MPD later said the shooting victim was a suspect in the case.
Officers were on the scene of a separate shooting at 1000 S. Third Street an hour later. One shooting victim was located at the scene and was transported to Regional One Health in critical condition. No suspect information was immediately available.
MPD also responded to a shooting around 9:30 Friday night at 3446 E. Shelby Drive. One male shooting victim was located and transported to Regional One Health in critical condition.
Police said an armed male suspect shot the man and then took his 2004 Mercedes sedan.
