MEMPHIS-AREA HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL RANKINGS

- Khari Thompson

The 2020-2021 high-school basketball season is in full swing and it's time for the first rankings of the new year. Here are the top-10 girls teams in the area as picked by The Commercial Appeal.

1. Olive Branch (9-0): The defending MHSAA Class 6A state champs have won all of their games by double-digits, including contests against Collierville, Southaven, and Houston.

2. Arlington (8-1): A six-point loss to Fayette-ware is the only blemish on the Tigers' record. Arlington was one of four teams left in last year's TSSAA Class AAA state tournament when it was shut down.

3. Hutchison (6-1): Led by Georgia Tech commitment Carmyn Harrison, the Sting have wins over Briarcrest, Collierville, and Fayette-ware among others. 4. Tipton-rosemark (4-0): The Rebels, who made their first state tournament appearance last year, have wins over Fayette Academy and Trinity Christian. 5. Collierville (11-2): The Dragons have wins over Covington, MAHS, and Center Hill. But they lost to Olive Branch and Hutchison by double-digits.

6. Briarcrest (5-2): The Saints are 3-0 when they hold opponents under 40 points.

7. Covington (12-4): The Chargers started off strong before dropping three of their last four games.

8. Fayette-ware (9-5): The Wildcats are on a five-game winning streak that includes a key win over Arlington.

9. Desoto Central (6-1): The Jaguars, who have won five in a row, have held all opponents to 53 or less.

10. Northpoint Christian (6-3): The Trojans bounced back from a threegame losing streak with wins over St. Agnes and Starkville.
