CNN, Fox News make changes to their lineups

New year, new cable news lineups. CNN and Fox News announced revisions to their 2021 schedules Monday as a new presidenti­al administra­tion prepares to take office.

The changes follow CNN’S post-election ratings surge and come as a dominant Fox News faces challenges from smaller right-leaning networks.

For CNN, “The Lead with Jake Tapper” expands to two hours in April. It will air each evening from 4 to 6 p.m. EST. Tapper, who joined the network in 2012, will also be its lead anchor for all major Washington events. To make room, “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer” will now air an hour later, starting at from 6 EST.

Other CNN moves: h Tapper will split hosting duties on “State of the Union,” the Sunday morning public-affairs series, with Dana Bash. Starting Jan. 24, each journalist will anchor twice per month. h Political correspond­ent Abby Phillip will host her own show, “Inside Politics

Sunday with Abby Phillip,” starting Jan. 24. The program will air Sundays at 8 a.m. EST.

h As of Jan. 23, Pamela Brown will serve as the anchor of “CNN Newsroom” Saturday and Sunday evenings from 6-9 p.m. EST.

Fox News is adding a fourth hour of opinion programmin­g to its evening lineup beginning Jan. 18: The 7 p.m EST slot will be filled by “Fox News Primetime,” initially with a rotating group of hosts until a permanent personalit­y is found. Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham follow in primetime. “The Story with Martha Maccallum,” which now airs at 7, moves to 3 p.m. EST.

Other changes, also effective Jan. 18: h “America’s Newsroom” will be condensed to two hours, airing 9-11 a.m. EST. Bill Hemmer will host with co-anchor Dana Perino.

h “The Faulkner Focus” hosted by Harris Faulkner will follow at 11 a.m. EST.

h “America Reports” with John Roberts and Sandra Smith will air from 1-3 p.m. EST.
