NEWNAN, GA - Doris Levy Bodan, age 88, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2021. She was born on December 30, 1932 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Dr. Gilbert and Helen Levy. Memphis was her home until her husband, Dr. Burton Bodan, passed away in 2015. She moved to Newnan, Georgia to be with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandson, where she very much enjoyed her final years.

As a young woman, Doris worked at Levy’s Lady Toggery until she married her beloved Burt. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her grandson was the light of her life, and she was very proud of him. As her family and many friends would tell you, she was sweet, kind, funny, and incredibly loving and generous to everyone in her life. Her quiet strength and resiliency helped her overcome a number of challenges. Some of her greatest pleasures were entertaining, traveling, and cooking. She had a talent for baking and was known for her lavish cheesecakes and chocolate cakes. Doris loved beautiful clothes and dressing up for occasions. She also had fun playing games; she enjoyed Mah Jongg, Bingo, and Hand and Foot. Another one of her loves was her dogs. She had many through the years. Peaches, Patty and Pearl were her favorites. She was a member of Temple Israel Synagogue in Memphis. Doris was a beautiful woman, both inside and out; her family and friends will miss her very much.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Callaway (Ben), her grandson Andy, and her son Richard Bodan of Redwood City, California. Also surviving are her sisters Joan Alperin and Helen Tower, three nieces and a nephew, all of Memphis. She was predeceased by her oldest son Burton P. Bodan, Jr. and her husband Burton P. Bodan, Sr.

The family wishes to thank Mary Blandenburg, her friend and caregiver for the last two years. They enjoyed each other’s company and shared many laughs.

Those who wish to honor her memory, may make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Humane Society of the U.S., or a charity of your choice. The family intends to have a memorial service at a later date.
