Ole Miss men, women on basketball bubble

- Nick Suss

Ole Miss very easily could send two teams to the NCAA basketball tournaments. It could also very easily send none.

The Rebels' men's and women's basketball teams are both squarely on the bubble with one week until the fields of 68 and 64 are picked by the selection committees.

The Ole Miss men (15-10, 10-8 SEC) still have some chances to build up their resume, which begins approximately just after 8 p.m. Thursday in the SEC Tournament against South Carolina. The women (12-12, 5-11 SEC) added one ranked win in their conference tournament and narrowly missed out on securing a second.

A number of bracket analysts put both Ole Miss teams in contention to be selected but none are projecting either Rebels team as in the field quite yet.

Here's a look at where both stand heading before Selection Sunday and Selection Monday:

Ole Miss men's predictions

ESPN analyst Joe Lunardi projects the Rebels as his seventh team out of the tournament. He ranks Utah State, Syracuse, Saint Louis, Seton Hall, Memphis and SMU ahead of Ole Miss among teams not in the tournament and lists Colorado State, Boise State, Drake and Xavier as his last four at-large teams in the tournament.

CBS Sports analyst Jerry Palm picks Ole Miss as his third team on the outside of the field. Palm lists Saint Louis and Syracuse ahead of Ole Miss with his last four teams in the field being Xavier, VCU, Boise State and Drake.

USA TODAY Sports' analysts Shelby Mast and Scott Gleeson have taken Ole Miss off their bubble.

They list Stanford, Belmont, Pittsburgh, North Carolina State and Duke ahead of Ole Miss unlike the other analysts.

With a win Thursday, the Rebels would advance to face third-seeded LSU in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament. Lunardi ranks LSU as an eightseed and a lock to make the NCAA Tournament.

Ole Miss women's predictions

ESPN analyst Charlie Creme ranks Ole Miss as his third team on the outside of the tournament field. He ranks Notre Dame and BYU ahead of Ole Miss on the bubble and lists Depaul, Mississippi State, Wake Forest and UCF as his last four teams in.

Ole Miss ranks No. 42 in the NET rankings and has three wins against teams ranked in the top 20.
