Arkansas State has hired former Memphis athletic director Tom Bowen
Bowen replaces Terry Mohajir, who left Arkansas State to assume the AD role at Central Florida.
“I’m very excited and honored to serve as Arkansas State’s athletics director,” Bowen said in school release Wednesdayt. “I am grateful to (chancellor) Kelly Damphousse, (Arkansas State systems president) Chuck Welch and everyone involved in the search process. I truly believe A-state is a special place with a premier athletic and academic identity, and I’m looking forward to being a part of the bright future here. Arkansas State and the Jonesboro community are a perfect fit for me and my family.”
He’ll be working with former Tennessee
football coach Butch Jones, who was hired Dec. 12.
Bowen resigned as Memphis’ athletic director on May 14, 2019, shortly after signing a six-month extension.
Bowen was hired by Memphis in 2012 after a nine years at San Jose State, his first job as an athletic director.
MURFREESBORO – Macon County is back to where it was a year ago.
Only this year the Tigerettes get a chance to try and finish out the season.
Macon County defeated Covington 49-34 Thursday in the Class AA quarterfinals of the TSSAA Bluecross Girls Basketball Championships held at Middle Tennessee State’s Murphy Center.
The win came a year after the Tigerettes reached the 2020 semifinals before the tournament was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Macon County (24-6) will play the winner of the Northview Academycreek Wood quarterfinal at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Class AA semifinals. Covington finished its season 25-6 and reached the state tournament for the second time in three years.
MTSU signee Jalynn Gregory, a Miss Basketball finalist scored the first nine points for Macon County and finished with a game-high 21 points. Gregory made two early 3-pointers to kick start the Tigerettes offense. Teammate Saranda Woodson added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Kalynn Howard led Covington with 14 points and hit three 3-pointers.
