Michael Jordan already is guaranteed a personal 70-win season, one of his many incredible accomplishments since saying those two little words a year ago: ”I’m back.” He’s a cinch for an unprecedented eighth NBA scoring title. His Chicago Bulls are on pace for the best regular-season record in league history. And he has again shown that he can dominate just about any game. ”I’m never totally satisfied because I start (my expectations) from perfection,” Jordan said. ”That’s a part of my mentality. But I’m happy that I could come back and play the type of basketball that I know I can play.” It was one year ago Monday that Jordan sent his two-word fax into the Bulls’ office, telling a waiting world that he was ending his 17-month retirement. He played the final 17 games last season, with the Bulls winning 13 times. And he’s the only Chicago player to have started every game this season; the Bulls are 58-7 as they try to become the first NBA team to record 70 wins. 50 years ago — 1971
Police computers, fed with witnesses’ descriptions of a hit-run car that claimed the life of a woman late Wednesday, beamed officers to a dirty white Lincoln Continental yesterday afternoon. Police said they plan to arrest the man to whom the car is registered.

HENDERSON, Texas – Every Memphis Chicks baseball player who started the game against Shreveport here Sunday was a former service man, and all but two of the Tribesmen who opened against Oklahoma City in Tyler had served in the armed forces. Almost every one of the former service men was in combat.

NASHVILLE – Shelby County’s drive to repeal the law by which Memphis pays $240,000 in automobile taxes into the state treasury every year and gets nothing back struck a snag this morning. Hopes fell with the sudden opposition of Speaker Todd. It would not be fair to say that the speaker made up the whole opposition. The fight is largely one of the cities against the country.
