Michael John Anthony Staunton, 86, passed away on March 30, 2021. He lived a rich and full life that spanned both sides of the Atlantic. He was beloved by all who knew him, and he leaves a legacy of character and significan­ce in the lives he touched. He spent his profession­al life in flight transporta­tion and air freight operations working for American Flyers, Flying Tigers, and ultimately Fedex, as one of the first fifty employees and retiring as VP Global Operations.

Born in Clooncunny, Co. Roscommon, Ireland, February 21, 1935, he grew up along the shores of Lough Gara. After graduating from St Nathy’s College in Ballaghade­reen, he immigrated to New York City in 1954. Serving in the United States Air Force, he was stationed at Loring AFB in Maine. In 1961, he married Lorraine Cyr who preceded him in death. They lovingly raised five children during their 25 years together.

In 1992, he married Janet Coleman of Memphis. Their 29 years together were full of love and laughter. They travelled frequently and pursued their retirement passions: playing bridge, vacationin­g by the water, and visiting their children and grandchild­ren.

He is survived by his wife Janet, her children Lynn Long and Tricia Eleogram; his children Michele Staunton Shaver, Jennifer Anstey, Erin Staunton, John Staunton, Hugh Staunton; his brother Dermot Staunton; 34 nieces and nephews; 15 grandchild­ren, and 4 great grandchild­ren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of choice, in Mike’s name.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, April 6 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 7 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 8151 Poplar Avenue in Germantown. The burial will immediatel­y follow via an escorted cortege at Memorial Park Cemetery.
