MEMPHIS, TN - Frank Joseph “Deacon Joe” Mensi, Jr., age 82, passed away April 13, 2021. He was born October 25, 1938 in Memphis, Tennessee to Frank Joseph Mensi, Sr. and Elizabeth Huffman Mensi.

Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Catherine Mensi; sons, Michael J. Mensi, Phillip L. Mensi (Jeannine), and Thomas V. Mensi; grandchild­ren, Tony, Cristin, Ashli, Alexandra, Annalee, and Rylan; and great-grandsons, Eli and Noah. Joe is also survived by his brother, Robert L. Mensi.

He graduated from Christian Brothers High School and attended Christian Brothers University. He worked as a Journeyman Electricia­n with Mccrory Electric Company. He was very involved with his sons in Boy Scouting. He served as a scoutmaste­r and raised two Eagle Scouts. Joe had a love of fish, being very active with the Midsouth Aquarium Society--he raised a variety of fish in his garage. He was also an accomplish­ed gardener and grew vegetables and beautiful flowers (especially roses).

Joe was also involved in Youth Ministry at Catholic Church of the Ascension and St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and was ordained a permanent Deacon of the Catholic Church in 1985.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 19 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home - Poplar Chapel, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38119. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 20 at 11:00 AM at Catholic Church of the Ascension, 3680 Ramill Road, Memphis, Tennessee 38128, where he was a founding member. Burial will immediatel­y follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
