John Peterson

On Tuesday, August 31, 2021 John Peterson of Collierville, TN unexpectedly passed away at the age of 58. John was survived by his two daughters, Jennifer Rice and Amanda Mcilwee; sons-in-law, Chris Rice and Craig Mcilwee; grandchildren, Olivia and Sydney Rice, and Hank and Peter Mcilwee. Survived by siblings Robert Peterson, Steven Peterson, and Linda Bower. John was predeceased by his wife, Sharon Peterson; his parents, Robert and Muriel Peterson and his sister Susan Griffin.

John was a devoted father and grandfather. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially at the beach. John grew up in Virginia where he played football for Great Bridge High School and Ferrum College. He loved sports and staying active with hiking, skiing, and diving. He enjoyed traveling, tennis, and golf with his long-time companion, Sonya Dunn.

John lived in the same community in Collierville for over twenty years and the friendships he formed there were an integral part of his life. His neighbors were like family and the bonds he formed will be dearly remembered for years to come.

John was passionate about his career as a financial consultant at both Morgan Stanley and for the past ten years at Wells Fargo. He placed great value on the quality of the relationships he built and will be sorely missed by his clients and his team.

John was an active supporter of both the Juvenile Diabetic Research Foundation/jdrf and the Wounded Warrior Project. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to those organizations in his memory.
