Here’s a look at promotions, hirings, movers and newsmakers in the Memphis area business scene:

Chancellor Jim Kyle is serving as Presiding Judge for the 30th Judicial District for one year. This took effect Sept. 1. His jurisdicti­on includes all of Shelby County. Kyle was a Democratic member of the Tennessee State Senate, representi­ng District 30 from 1982 to Aug. 29, 2014. He resigned after his election as a Shelby County Chancery Court Judge in 2014.

Campbell Clinic Orthopaedi­cs recently announced the hiring of several new physicians to its team. Dr. Chad Campion returns to Campbell Clinic’s Wolf River location after finishing his residency at Campbell Clinic and completing his fellowship in spine surgery at Norton-leatherman Spine in Louisville, Kentucky. He received his doctor of medicine from Rutgers. Campion has expertise in performing minimally invasive spine surgery, cervical disk replacemen­t and lateral interbody fusion. He is experience­d in sports orthopaedi­cs. Dr. Carson Rider is returning to Campbell Clinic as a foot and ankle surgeon. He did his orthopaedi­c residency at Campbell Clinic and completed his fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. His focus is on Total Ankle Replacemen­t in the outpatient setting, and foot and ankle sports surgery that focuses on the Achilles tendon. Rider graduated at the top of his class from medical school at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Wesley Owen returns to Campbell Clinic as a primary care sports medicine provider. He completed Campbell Clinic’s Family Medicine Sports Medicine Fellowship and has special training in Sports Concussion­s and ultrasound guided injection therapy for arthritis. Owen finished his residency from the University of Tennessee’s St. Francis Family Medicine Program. He received his doctor of medicine from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Dr. Matthew Gilbert joins Campbell Clinic as a sports medicine provider. He received his doctor of medicine from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and completed his residency and fellowship in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, with the University of Alabama’s Family Medicine Residency and Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship programs. He is proficient in the evaluation and treatment of a variety of acute and chronic musculoske­letal conditions in patients of all ages. Gilbert’s current coverage will primarily include Rhodes College, the University of Memphis, the Memphis Redbirds and Bartlett High School.

Two people affiliated with Trezevant recently received Awards of Excellence from the Tennessee Health Care Associatio­n (THCA), an associatio­n dedicated to helping maintain the high standards of licensed long-term care facilities within Tennessee. Patricia Tate, director of Healthcare Food Service at Allen Morgan and Trezevant Terrace, won the DSA 2021 Member of the Year Award from THCA’S Dietary Supervisor­s Associatio­n. She creates the menus and manages the production of more than 600 meals a day in addition to special functions for Trezevant’s Assisted Living and Health and Rehab Center. She is responsibl­e for assessing and collecting clinical informatio­n for each resident admitted to Trezevant’s Assisted Living facility and keeping each resident’s restrictio­ns in mind when creating menus. Trezevant resident Ann Knox won THCA’S 2021 Volunteer of the Year Award. Knox created the Rainbow Project at Trezevant. This resident-driven Random Act of Kindness program provides free, cheerful cards that leave space for adding personal messages to those who are unable to interact in person throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. These are delivered by volunteers to residents in Allen Morgan Health Center and Trezevant Terrace as well as independen­t living residents.

The Colliervil­le Fire Department announced the promotions of Training Officer Bobby Cannon and Lieutenant Mike Sansone to the rank of Battalion Chief. Together, they have a total of 48 years of service to the Town of Colliervil­le. As battalion chiefs, they will serve as the daily shift commander and will be responsibl­e for management, command and the direction of daily operations. Cannon has served in Colliervil­le for 22 years as a firefighte­r, paramedic and training officer. Sansone has served with Colliervil­le Fire Department for 26 years total as a firefighte­r, driver, paramedic and engine company lieutenant.

Crye-leike Real Estate Services Realtor Suzanne Watkins recently earned her broker’s license in Mississipp­i and Tennessee. To become a broker, Watkins was required to take a 30-hour broker management course and pass the State of Mississipp­i and State of Tennessee broker exams. A lifelong resident of North Mississipp­i, she has been a member of the real estate industry for six years and is affiliated with Crye-leike’s Olive Branch office.

Kirk Pafford has returned to Trezevant as administra­tor of Assisted Living at Trezevant Terrace. He will oversee all operations of Trezevant’s assisted living facility. Previous experience includes a 10-year stint at Allen Morgan Health and Rehabilita­tion Center at Trezevant where he held a variety of roles including floor nurse, quality assurance nurse and assistant director of Nursing for the facility. Pafford earned his Administra­tion Certificat­ion from the State of Tennessee.

Former deputy administra­tor of the Shelby County Office of Reentry Patricia Melton last month joined

Hopeworks’ leadership team as its next chief operating officer. In her new role, she’ll assist the executive director to grow programs and offerings by developing measurable goals and evaluating performanc­e through data and metrics, as well as optimize operations. Melton holds a master’s degree in human developmen­t from Pacific Oaks College. She served the State of Tennessee for 14 years with the Shelby County Office of Reentry, Division of Correction­s and the State Department of Intellectu­al Disabiliti­es. Melton received Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris’ Shining Star Award in 2020.

Noteworthy

Atlantic Intermodal Services (AIS), a member of Memphis-based IMC Companies’ family of brands, recently expanded its 4-acre depot in Norfolk, Virginia, by an additional 16 acres. This expansion gives AIS the capability to store more than 700 containers in the Norfolk depot, convenient­ly located just 5 miles from the Port of Virginia.

On Aug. 27, Terminix partnered with Make-a-wish Foundation of Memphis and the Mid-south to grant the wish of Demarcus. His wish was for an electronic shopping spree. Terminix teammates from across the country came together to create a video, which culminated in a video game specifical­ly created for Demarcus. He also received a new Playstatio­n 5, iphone 12 Pro Max, Apple watch, shoes, basketball jerseys, a video-gaming chair and other items.

Paragon Bank on Aug. 31 announced that its net income for the second quarter of 2021 was $1.2 million, which was 33% higher than the first quarter of 2021 and 36% higher than the second quarter of 2020. The first six months of 2021 was the most profitable six-month period in Paragon’s history with net income of $2 million. Net income for the first six months of 2021 was up 31% over the first six months of 2020.
