Richard (Trey) Terrell Hughes III

-

Richard (Trey) Terrell Hughes III joined his mom and the angels on Saturday, November 13, 2021. He fought a hard and strong battle against Stage 4 stomach cancer, and he will forever be remembered for his strength and positivity through this journey.

Trey was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, friend and so much more to so many people. He lived a life full of love, full of purpose, full of kindness, full of strength. If you knew Trey, you loved him and you were deeply loved by him. When Trey entered a room, his infectious smile lit up the room and he always made you feel welcomed, accepted, included and loved. If you knew Trey, you are a better person because he made you want to be better.

Trey was born September 2, 1978, in Memphis, Tenn. He graduated from Kirby High School in 1997 and the University of Memphis in 2007. He was a member of the United States Coast Guard and served five years active duty and three years reserve. He spent his career at Johnson Controls for the last 14 years.

Trey was married to his best friend, his charm to his “lucky charms,” for 15 years, and was her best friend for 27 years. They had a love and a friendship many dream about. They have three beautiful children whom Trey adored, and they adore him. They are a shining example of Trey’s spirit and the kindness he poured into this world daily.

Trey is known for many things: his love, his friendship, his heartfelt hugs, his smile, his love for dancing and at-home dance parties, his inability to sing any words that are actually part of a song, his playful spirit with his children, his phenomenal soccer skills and uncanny ability to score beautiful goals. But most importantly, he was known for the impact he had on everyone who knew him. He made you a better person through his kindness, compassion and love.

He is survived by the love of his life, Michelle; daughters Kayla and Harper; son Ethan; father Terry (Debbie); sisters Christi (David) and Candice (Dustin); brothers John and Brian (Alison); parents in love Gail and Tim; nephew Skylar and nieces Ava and Charlotte. He is preceded in death by his mother, Stephanie Moore, who shares the same heavenly birthday (November 13, 2020).
