Memphis basketball adds Elijah Mccadden

- Jason Munz

Memphis basketball has its first roster addition of the offseason in fifthyear senior transfer and career 1,000point scorer Elijah Mccadden.

Mccadden, a 6-4 guard, played the past four seasons at Georgia Southern. Last season, the Rocky Mount, North Carolina, native led the Eagles in scoring (11.7 points) and assists (2.6). He was also third on the team in rebounding (4.6) and was named the Sun Belt's

Sixth Man of the Year.

Mccadden, who announced his transfer to Memphis on social media Tuesday, brings experience to the Tigers' roster.

He has played in 115 games and made 70 starts, averaging 27.3 minutes. Mccadden has a career scoring average of 9.3 and a career field goal percentage of 45.1.

Mccadden made a big splash when Sportscenter tweeted a clip of his poster dunk from a win over Florida Gulf Coast on Dec. 1, 2019. Later that season, he helped lead the Eagles to the semifinals of the Sun Belt tournament, which was interrupted by the pandemic.

Mccadden — a career 31.3% shooter from the 3-point line and 65.8% free throw shooter — joins a Tigers' roster in need of reinforcements. Memphis has already seen Landers Nolley, Earl Timberlake, John Camden and Sam Onu enter the transfer portal. Josh Minott, an AAC all-freshman honoree, has declared for the NBA Draft and does not intend to return to the Tigers. Fellow freshman Jalen Duren, a projected lottery pick, is expected to soon do the same.

Deandre Williams, Emoni Bates and Lester Quinones (who is testing the NBA Draft waters) have yet to publicly announce whether they are returning to Memphis next season.

Mccadden is also a consistent rebounder, averaging 4.1 over his career. He has also dished out 2.0 assists per game over the last four seasons (to go along with 2.6 turnovers per game) and put up 1.02 steals per game.
