Ole Miss should look at these 5 QBS for ’23

- Langston Newsome

Ole Miss football missed out on quarterback Christopher Vizzina when the junior picked Clemson over the Rebels, Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State and Notre Dame last week.

The four-star recruit is the No. 7 quarterback in the nation and No. 52 recruit in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

However, Rebels fans shouldn't be worried about the future. Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin landed USC transfer Jaxon Dart in January. The former fourstar quarterback threw for 1,353 yards and nine touchdowns across six games last season. Dart joins sophomore Luke Altmyer as Kiffin's top-two options at quarterback for the 2022 season.

Both are sophomores and Kiffin could always add more competition, especially in the transfer portal era.

If Kiffin wants to go the traditional route, here are five Class of 2023 quarterbacks the Rebels should target.

Arch Manning

Isidore Newman (Louisiana) Manning is the crown jewel of the 2023 class. The five-star recruit is the No. 1 prospect nationally. The grandson of Archie Manning and nephew of Eli and Peyton Manning has offers from Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss and Texas among others.

The junior visited Georgia, Alabama and Texas in March and was at Virginia this month. Arch also visited Ole Miss in 2021.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Manning threw for 1,947 yards, 26 passing touchdowns and seven rushing touchdowns last season.

Dante Moore

Martin Luther King (Michigan) The Michigan native is one of five

quarterbacks in the Class of 2023 to receive a five-star rating. Moore is the No. 3 quarterback in the nation and No. 5 recruit nationally. Ole Miss got involved early in Moore's recruitment and offered him in April 2020. The 6-2, 195-pound Moore also has offers from LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Penn State among others. Moore visited Michigan and attended junior day at LSU and Florida State in March.

Moore threw for 3,047 yards and 40 touchdowns and helped lead King to the Michigan Division 3 state championship.

Dylan Lonergan

Brookwood (Georgia)

The four-star recruit is the No. 9 quarterback and No. 100 recruit nationally. Lonergan received offers from Ole Miss, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina

and Ohio State among others.

The 6-2, 215-pound Lonergan visited South Carolina, Ohio State and Alabama in April and Florida in March.

Lonergan led the Broncos to a 10-3 record and threw for 3,392 yards, 32 touchdowns along with seven rushing touchdowns.

Jaden Rashada

Pittsburg (California)

The five-star recruit had 2,220 yards and 27 touchdowns along with 193 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. Rashada helped lead the Pirates to a 9-3 record.

The 6-4, 185-pound Rashada is the No. 5 quarterback and No. 29 nationally.

Rashada has offers from Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Auburn, Arkansas and Arizona State among others. The junior visited Arkansas on April 15 and Miami in March.

Marcel Reed

Montgomery Bell Academy (Tennessee)

The three-star recruit helped lead the Big Red to a 9-4 record with 1,513 passing yards and 12 touchdowns in 13 games. Reed also had 593 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.

Reed had 512 total yards and six touchdowns in MBA'S three playoff games and helped the Big Red advance to the TSSAA Division II-AAA state championship.

The 6-1, 175-pound Reed is the No. 20 quarterback nationally. Reed also has offers from Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Georgia amongst others. He visited Vanderbilt and Ole Miss in March. He is the son of former Tennessee State football coach Rod Reed.
