Here’s a look at promotions, hirings, movers and newsmakers in the Memphis area business scene: Shawn Sentilles, an intellectu­al property attorney with more than 25 years of experience, joined Baker Donelson as Of Counsel with the firm’s Memphis office. He represents clients in intellectu­al property litigation, patent and trademark prosecutio­n, trade secret protection, intellectu­al property licensing and due diligence. Previously, he was in-house patent counsel at a multi-national publicly-traded medical device company. He is a graduate of the Tulane Law School and is on the executive council of the Tennessee Bar Associatio­n Intellectu­al Property Law Section.

The Memphis Medical District Collaborat­ive announced multiple

internal promotions as the organizati­on grows. In addition to these promotions, MMDC hired four new employees in 2021. Recent promotions were Abigail Sheridan, vice president, Chief Operating Officer; Ben Schulman, vice president, Real Estate and Economic Developmen­t; Emily Harris Halpern, program director, Communicat­ions and Engagement; Latasha Harris, program director, Anchor Programs; and Mariko Krause, program coordinato­r, Real Estate and Economic Developmen­t.

The Tennessee Veterinary Medical Associatio­n recently named its 2022-2023 executive board, which comprises veterinari­ans statewide. The newly elected officers include President

Bob Parker of the Memphis Mobile K9 Chiropract­ic and Veterinary Care. Susan Moon of Brooks Road Animal Hospital in Memphis is the AVMA delegate.

Dr. Mark Akin has been selected as the 2022 Mississipp­i State University Alumnus of The Year. The 1977 graduate of Shannon High School earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Mississipp­i State. The Colliervil­le resident has been in Equine Sports Medicine practice for 36 years.

Harris Shelton Hanover Walsh announced the expansion of its legal team with the addition of two new attorneys, Louis Bernsen, who practices civil litigation, and Paul

Matthews, whose focus is in business and corporate law. Bernsen received his Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis last year and was a summer law clerk at the firm. Matthews has more than four decades of legal experience. He earned his Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University.

Tim Barton, director of Research and Safety Affairs at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), was presented the Patriot Award from the Office of the Secretary of Defense Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. The award is given to supervisor­s and bosses for providing direct support to an employee who serves in the military. Barton was nominated by Charlie Hutton, health and safety specialist at UTHSC, for support in meeting Hutton’s commitment­s to the Army National

Guard. Any employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve may nominate their supervisor for providing support through flexible schedules, time off pre- and post-deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence. As a staff sergeant with 20 years of active duty and reserve experience, Hutton’s leadership and industrial hygiene training received in the military directly relates to his work as a health and safety specialist at UTHSC.

The Collision Repair Education Foundation announced its newly appointed executive committee, which consists of seven industry profession­als who are dedicated to supporting the future of the industry through engagement with collision schools and students. The new members of the 2022 committee are Chair Steve Schmidt (State Farm); Vice Chair Kevin

Burnett (Gerber Collision &

Glass); Secretary Doug Irish (Fayettevil­le Technical Community College); Treasurer Ryan West (GEICO); Trustees-at-large Don Mikrut (Wejo) and Brenda Hogen (Parts Trader) and Immediate Past Chair Tom Wolf (PPG Industries). Attorney Stewart Brumbeloe has joined the law firm of Moskovitz, Mcghee, Brown, Cohen & Moore as an associate. His practice will focus on family law. Stewart earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis where he was a member of both the Sports and Entertainm­ent Law Society and the Federalist Society. Stewart is a member of the Tennessee Bar Associatio­n’s Entertainm­ent & Sports Law Section.
