Colliervillegermantown tops Week 7; predictions
Week 6 of the TSSAA football season saw a big upset of one of the area’s top teams in Germantown’s loss to Houston. What’s in store for Week 7? Here’s a look at the top games in the area and predictions for this week’s games. Commercial Appeal high school sports writer Wynston Wilcox is picking the games this year.
Game of the week Germantown (5-1, 2-1 Region 8-6A) at Collierville (6-0, 3-0)
When: 7 p.m., Friday
Collierville has been good at protecting the ball this year, but it hasn’t seen a defense like Germantown, which is good at taking the ball away from offenses, averaging around two turnovers per game. Can Aidan Glover lead Collierville’s offense to another win and extend its regular season win streak to 16 games, or will Germantown bounce back from its first loss of the season?
Wilcox’s pick: Collierville 28, Germantown 20
Bartlett (4-2, 2-1 Region 8-6A) at Houston (5-1, 3-0)
When: 7 p.m., Friday
This will be a battle of running backs. Damon Sisa and Houston have the edge with Sisa rushing for 780 yards and seven touchdowns this season. But Bartlett’s Geron Johnson has quickly jumped into the conversation as a top 10 running back in the area with nearly 400 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns this season.
Wilcox’s pick: Houston 28, Bartlett 20
Whitehaven (2-4, 0-3 Region 8-6A) at Arlington (4-2, 2-1)
When: 7 p.m., Friday
Whitehaven’s shot at the playoffs are slim and just about none with a loss. With four games left in the season, they are playing catch up to avoid having a losing record for the first time since 1998. The Tigers are still looking for their first region win of the season. For Arlington, it’s turned around from a 2-8
