With prayers and crayons, compassion and construction paper, the Sunshine Club of Immaculate Conception Elementary School is brightening the lives of the sick, lonely or hurting. Hannah Earhart, 10, sent sunshine to a baby who was in a car wreck. Leslie Posey, 7, beamed a few warming rays to a couple who lost a parent. Molly Earhart, 8, packaged up some good cheer for a woman who was sick. Dr. Maribeth Andreck, principal of IC elementary, formed the club this fall at the suggestion of Ann Dunahoo, mother of club member Emily Dunahoo, 10.

NEW ORLEANS – Quarterback Archie Manning threw two touchdown passes to wide receiver Danny Abramowicz as the New Orleans Saints defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 21-3, Sunday afternoon for the Saints’ first victory of the National Football League season. The Saints scored with the opening kickoff and again the first time they had possession in the third period to take a commanding lead over the Eagles.

Executives of the four downtown department stores making up the Memphis Associated Retailers see very little change in credit regulations as the result of the end of wartime deferred payment restrictions on Saturday. John J. Valentine, secretary of the association and authorized to speak for the four stores — Bry’s, Gerber’s, Goldsmith’s and Lowenstein’s — after conferences with store officials, said: “For the present there is expected to be little change, although some gradual changes are to be expected as the public demands it.”

That a complete agreement between the city and the Memphis Gas and Electric Company on points long in dispute has been reached and that the city is ready to go through with the ordinance permitting the sale of the company’s property was indicated by Mayor Rowlett Paine. The agreement is a substantial victory for the city and a justification for the strategy of the mayor in dealing with the situation.

MALVERN, Ark. – The board of health here today passed additional quarantine regulations prohibiting the Iron Mountain Railroad from storing or leaving on sidetracks, freight or express from points south of the Ohio River, in transit to Hot Springs.
