Overton ascends to the top after capturing region title
Overton boys basketball is the area's strongest team remaining in the postseason. It's been a historic run for the Wolverines, led by senior Jordan Frison and Xavier Alexander, making them one of the top two teams in the area.
Where's where Memphis-area teams stand in this week's boys basketball rankings, which includes TSSAA and MHSAA programs.
1. Briarcrest (33-3): The Saints' season ended last week in a loss to Brentwood Academy in the Division II-AA boys state title game.
2. Overton (29-11): Frison's 32point, MVP performance helped the Wolverines defeated Memphis East to win the Region 8-4A championship.
3. Memphis East (21-10): Despite an 18-point performance from Jamarion Harvey, the Mustangs fell to Overton in the Region 8-4A championship game.
4. Fayette-ware (25-7): Eric Jones led the Wildcats with 27 points, but Fayette-ware fell to Ridgeway 64-60 in the region championship game.
5. Horn Lake (29-2): The Eagles fell to Northwest Rankin in the Mississippi boys high school basketball 6A state tournament last Wednesday.
6. Olive Branch (20-4): Olive Branch's season ended in the 6A Mississippi boys high school state semifinals in a loss to Brandon.
7. Power Center Academy (23-7): The Knights debut in this week's rankings, having won 15 straight games with help from Nick Wiggins and Cordarious Sledge.
8. Douglass (24-7): Douglass is on a 16-game win streak, knocking off Bolivar Central for a region championship on Thursday night.
9. Collierville (18-13): The Dragons' season ended against Overton in the Region 8-4A semifinals, with senior guard TJ Mcneal leading the team with 24 points.
10. Hillcrest (20-12): The Vikings debut in the rankings, despite losing to Power Center Academy in the Region 8-2A championship game.
