MEMPHIS - The Good Lord has opened his arms and welcomed an Angel home. On March 6, 2024, Tommie Sue Parks Horne passed away at the age of 74 at the Jordan River Health Campus at the Farms in Collierville, TN, gathered with her husband and children. Tommie was born in Memphis, TN on June 3, 1949, and was the only child of Thomas E. Parks and Bettye Shamblin Parks.

Always a creative, artistic, and people person, she graduated from White Station High School in Memphis in 1967. She then enrolled in the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where she continued to develop her creative, artistic and design skills, while bringing joy and happiness to everyone she met. After two years of college, wanting the opportunity to travel and see the world, she became a flight attendant with Delta Airlines based in Atlanta, GA. In 1971, after two years of dating, Tommie married John D. Horne, with whom she would spend the next 52+ years bringing joy, happiness and love to her husband, her three wonderful children, their wonderful spouses, and seven grandchildren. Following her wedding, she “retired” from flying and accompanied her husband to Virginia, where he served in the U.S. Army for three and a half years. In 1974, while in Virginia, she gave birth to their twin sons, Brantley and K.C. Following her husband’s discharge from active duty, their growing family returned to Memphis, where she would spend the rest of her earthly life. In 1977, her family expanded again when she gave birth to their daughter, Lindsey. For the next 47 years, Tommie dedicated her life to her family, her friends, and the Lord, creating, decorating, painting, educating, entertaining, organizing, celebrating her family and friends, and bringing joy, happiness, and love wherever she went. Whether she was making and mending children’s clothes, creating decorations and works of art, or organizing school and sports functions, planning dinners and celebrations, gathering friends for tennis, Mah Jong, traveling, or just spending time with her family, she always brought joy, happiness, laughter, and love to whomever she met.

Tommie cherished her husband, John, their three children and their spouses - Brantley Parks Horne and Caroline Johnson Horne, Dr. Kristopher Cornell Horne and Katheryn Canale Horne, Lindsey Horne Renovich and William Robert Renovich, and her seven phenomenal grandchildren - John, Charlie, Kristopher, Isabel, Parks, William, and Price. She left us too soon, and she will surely be missed, but her Good Shepherd had better plans for this Lamb of God. Her family gives thanks for the loving care given to Tommie by Senior Helpers, Inc., Jordan River Memory Care, Jordan River Skilled Nursing, Crossroads Hospice, and the Clergy of The Church of the Holy Communion, in taking the last steps of her earthly journey.

Her family will gather at the Parish Hall of The Church of the Holy Communion (Episcopal), 4645 Walnut Grove Road, Memphis, TN 38117 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 to greet friends, followed by a funeral service in the Church at 1:00 p.m. A private family burial at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN will follow.
