The 19th annual Southaven Spring Festival has something old, something new, something borrowed and, uh, barbecue. The old is birthday celebration for the incorporation of Southaven, completing its 19th year; new is the grounds at Snowden Grove Park, with more room for parking, rides and Springfest activities; borrowed are the uniforms from battle re-enactors for simulated battle scenes from World War II and the War Between the States. Barbecue — the festival hosts the Mississippi State Barbecue Cooking Championship with the winner earning an automatic entry into the 2000 Memphis In May International Festival World Barbecue Cooking Championship.

Ford Motor softball club defeated Keegan's School of Broadcasting and Television, 17-6 yesterday in an exhibition at South Side Park. Ford enjoyed a seven-run third, while Keegan piled up five in the fifth, with Morris Parker smashing a four-run homer. Parker also hit a double.

When the three houses in the "Better Homes" exhibit are opened to the public, one of the first you will want to see is house number two, built and loaned by Palmer Bros., realtors, and located at 60 S. Auburndale Street, corner Union Avenue, if the enthusiasm of Mrs. R.H. Thomas, who is in charge of the arrangement of the furnishings, means anything. Mrs. Thomas says: "This house is a dream, and the rooms are so well arranged."
