Hobart’s Run hosts pop-up cafe
Take a stroll down High Street and you may notice some unfamiliar music and seating outside The Hill School.
A pop-up mid-day cafe was featured Wednesday as part of The Hill School’s Hobart Run initiative. The event, taking place every Wednesday, includes local musical artists performing live as well as local food establishments who set up shop to expose residents to some of their products. This week’s featured eatery was Gracie’s 21st Century Cafe, 1534 Manatawny Drive, Pine Forge.
“It’s just a way of getting neighbors to come out and also have them be able to intermingle with Hill School staff,” said Twila Fisher, manager of community and economic development at The Hill School. “Part of my position as the manager of community and economic development is to change the perception a little bit in town of The Hill School, to make it a little bit more accessible or available. I thought this was a natural way to do that.”
In addition to the food, guests could enjoy seating just beside the entrance to The Hill School and live music performed by local artists that change each week.
“This is great,” said Sarah Sholette. Sholette was attending the event to support her fiance, Alex Turock, who was performing the live music. “Any kind of pop-up music event that a community can sponsor, especially over the summertime, is great. This is a little different though that it’s mid-day in regard to who’s coming out to it but it’s kind of cool.” The pop-up mid-day cafe is part of a larger initiative run by The Hill School aimed at working with residents to revitalize the neighborhood through high-impact projects. The group has previously done work including cleanups of Edgewood Cemetery and Beech Street and hosted its third community bike ride Thursday.
The ride began at around 6:30 p.m. from Pottstown FARM at Charlotte and High streets.
