Police officer inducted into Mansfield University Society of Honors
Heather Long of Pottstown was inducted into the Mansfield University Society of Honors during Alumni Weekend 2016. Long, a 2005 Mansfield graduate, received the Outstanding Young Alumni Award, which is given for outstanding professional performance, achievements and leadership to those who have graduated in the last 25 years.
Long graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice administration and a minor in human development. She was on the dean’s list and was a member of Lambda Sigma, Lambda Alpha Epsilon, a four-year letter winner and starter for the field hockey and softball teams and was inducted into the university’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.
After graduation Long attended the Act 120 Municipal Police Academy, graduating as lieutenant of 2006 class, ranking in the top three for GPA and earning the Best Driver Award. She joined the Borough of Pottstown Police Department as a patrol officer from 2007 to 2010 before being transferred to juvenile detective. Long is a forensic interviewer of Children of Abuse and a member of Multidisciplinary Team at Mission Kids CAC, Montgomery County Sexual Assault Task Force and Montgomery County Drug Task Force. She is also a Homeland Security Cross-Designated Task Force Officer.
Long received the 2015 Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office Commendation, was named the 2015 Pottstown Rotary Person of the Year and the 2014 Pottstown Police Officer of the Year. In 2012, Long was nominated for the National Outstanding Service Award. She has received a dozen commendations from the Pottstown Police Department for extraordinary police work.
