Sanatoga post office to return
Landis Supermarket hopes counter will open late August
LOWER POTTSGROVE >> Sanatoga residents who miss the convenience of having a post office annex at the old Thriftway supermarket take heart.
The Landis Supermarket that took over that old store is also taking over that function.
What’s more, it will be located right were it always was, at the service desk up front, said Scott Landis, vice president of the company.
What he can’t say yet, is when it will be open.
“Hopefully by the end of August, but we definitely got the contract, so now we’ll have to see how long it takes.”
“We’re waiting for some equipment to arrive and we’ll still need some training,” Landis said.
“It was definitely the question we were getting asked the most,” Landis said.
“So we looked into it and learned there’s a protocol, so
settled in to be patient and work through the process,” Landis said.
That process was helped along by the office of U.S. Rep. Ryan Costello, R-6th Dist.
“Our community identified a need and my staff has been working with stakeholders in the area to re-establish the Sanatoga Post Office, which is great news for the residents of Lower Pottsgrove Township,” Costello said in a statement provided by his office.
“I’m proud of the hard work across the community and appreciate the opportunity to come together with the township, Postal Service, and store owners to make this happen,” Costello said.
“We’re very pleased that we’re going to be able to offer this service to our customers again,” said Landis, “and I think the community will be pretty excited.”
He said the return of the Post Office outpost, as well as the opening of Liberty Thrift in the old K-Mart across the parking lot, will hopefully help both businesses.
“I think there will be some cross traffic there and hopefully, it will be a plus for everyone,” Landis said.
