Whoville isn’t the only town with its own Grinch this holiday season.

Pottstown Downtown Improvement District Authority officials were surprised when they found that their Santa House and Christmas storage trailer had been broken into.

“Given our few resources to hold our holiday events, it saddens us to think the Grinch would visit our town and leave us such destruction,” Sheila Dugan, Main Street Manager for PDIDA, said in a press release.

The police report indicates that the last known time the shed was secured was in September following the end of the Farmer’s Market. Police said 50 boxes of white Christmas lights were reported missing from the shed, which is located in the Reading parking lot not far from the Pottstown Police

station. It was also reported that significant damage was done to one of the shed’s windows and outside light, as well as the door to the trailer.

PDIDA’s website says that the theft will not affect plans for Hometown Holidays, but the group will have donation buckets out throughout Small Business Saturday and the holiday celebration from Dec. 9 to Dec. 11 to help replace what was taken.

Anyone interested in donating can also visit www. downtownpottstown.org and click the “donate” button on the home page.

Hobart’s Run has already announced that they plan to make a donation, according to a post on their Facebook page. They are urging others to do the same.

Police are asking that anyone with information on the incident or the missing Christmas decorations contact Pottstown Police Department at 610-970-6570 and ask for one of the detectives.
