Fundraiser started to help victims of fire.
POTTSTOWN >> After a fire severely damaged a home in Pottstown, a fundraising effort has been set up to assist the residents.
“This morning I got an emergency phone call at work. I’m thinking what could this possibly be? My heart beating. This was one of, yes one, very heart breaking phone call. Our house caught on fire. I told my boss I had to leave and I headed straight down to what used to be my house. We lost everything, literally. The things we could salvage are barely salvageable,” said Cheyanne McGill in a post on the fundraising site.
McGill was one of a few people who resided in a home on Third Street that on Dec. 21 caught fire leaving the entire back end of the home charred.
At the time the fire was reported, neighbors stated they heard a loud boom and when they looked outside, found the home engulfed in flames. One neighbor, Robert Oglesby, stated that he and another neighbor ran over to the home, broke down the door and helped people who had been sleeping upstairs, out of the house.
One young boy who had been downstairs when the fire broke out was able to get out on his own, neighbors reported.
Firefighters responded to the blaze at around 7:50 a.m. and were able to get it under control in about a half an hour.
The fire marshal said Wednesday that the cause was under investigation.
“Thank God for the Red cross and helping us with a hotel room for three days. After that... We’re pretty much lost,” said McGill in her post.
McGill is hoping that she can receive some assistance with securing a down payment for an apartment as well other necessary items that were lost in the fire, according to her post. The page has been shared 210 times and raised $220 of a $3,000 goal so far.
