Police look for suspect in West Pottsgrove burglary
WEST POTTSGROVE >> Police are looking for a suspect in a distraction burglary that happened on Monday.
According to a release from West Pottsgrove Police, a distraction burglary occurred on the 300 block of Glasgow Street on Jan. 23 between 2 and 2:15 p.m. Police said a male suspect approached an elderly homeowner and told her he worked for the local water company and that there was a problem with water in the area.
The woman initially refused but after persistence from the suspect, she let him inside. The suspect then walked the woman into the kitchen at the back of the property. He then spent 15 minutes watching water from the faucet to allegedly look for discoloration. He then left abruptly afterward, police said.
It was reported later that another man, whom the victim could not describe, had entered the residence at the same time and stole valuables from the second floor.
The woman was not injured as a result of the burglary.
Police said the victim described the man she let in as a white or Hispanic man, approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a thin build and wearing a blue shirt with a company tag hanging from the shirt.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact West Pottsgrove Police at 610-323-2090.
“We urge residents that any person that attempts to gain access to your property that you ask for identification and a supervisor’s phone number,” said West Pottsgrove Police Chief Matthew Stofflet in the release.
Police are urging residents to report any suspicious activity.
