D.A.: Second vehicle may be involved in fatal crash
WEST POTTSGROVE >> Investigators were back at the scene Feb. 5 of a car crash that killed two people and injured a third, now seeking more information on a second car that detectives believe fled the scene.
West Pottsgrove Police assisted detectives from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office as they gathered more evidence along Route 422 east near the Stowe exit.
Based on witness interviews, the car that crashed was racing another vehicle at the time of the crash, according to a release from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. The second car initially stopped at the crash scene but then fled, the release stated.
Early Feb. 4, an eastbound car careened off the bypass and crashed into a tree, landing down a steep embankment near the Schuylkill River. The crash occurred at 12:02 a.m., the release said.
The second car was described as a newer model black Dodge Challenger with dark tinted windows, bright headlights and yellow fog lights. The car was displaying an unknown Delaware license plate, the release said. The investigation revealed the car involved was travelling more than 100 mph at the time of the crash.
Eastbound traffic was slowed and reduced to one land while investigators were on the scene.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office is handling the investigation, a normal practice when a fatality is involved. The names of the two victims are not being released until families are notified.
Anyone who might have witnessed the crash or have any information about the other car that fled is asked to call either the Montgomery County Detectives at 610-278- 3368 or the West Pottsgrove Police at 6103232090.
