Police have arrested a wanted Pottstown man after he allegedly tried to flee from a Lower Pottsgrove officer.

James Wallace Everette, 27, of Pottstown, was arrested Sunday after police made a traffic stop for several violations and Everette allegedly tried to flee on foot.

Around 8:30 a.m., police said they saw a Pontiac Bonneville traveling through the intersection of North Keim and Buchert Road at a high speed while the traffic light was not working because of a power outage, police said. Officers said the vehicle tried to elude police and that once the officer was behind the vehicle, he noted several violations.

Once the vehicle was pulled over, officers were given a false identification from the front seat passenger, who police later identified as Everette. Everette then fled from the vehicle while police were still investigating the false identification.

A foot chase ensued and police were able to catch up to Everette and place him in custody.

Everette was wanted by Pottstown Police for armed robbery and related charges, police said. Lower Pottsgrove Police have now filed charges for false identification to law enforcement and he has been turned over to Pottstown Police.

In addition to false identification, Everette is facing charges of robbery, possession of a firearm prohibited, firearms not to be carried without a license, possession of a weapon, terroristic threats, simple assault and theft. He was arraigned on Feb. 19 before District Judge Catherine Hummel Fried and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 28 again before Fried. He was unable to post the set $50,000 cash bail and is being held at Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
