LOWER POTTSGROVE >> Police have arrested a man after he allegedly caused a disturbance at Diamond Credit Union and resisted arrest.

Wilfredo F. Lugo Sanchez, 37, of Pottstown was charged March 2 after police say they responded to Diamond Credit Union, 1600 Medical Drive, for a customer disturbance. Police reports indicate that officers arrived at the bank at 1:10 p.m. after employees reported that a male suspect, later identified as Lugo-Sanchez, was causing a disturbance over his accounts.

Officers made contact with Lugo-Sanchez upon arrival and police said he then stated, “You are here for me. I’m outside because they (Credit Union) are afraid of me.”

Police said as they interviewed him he was uncooperative, refused to give his name and started walking away from officers. Police asked him to stop for identification and investigation so that they could determine what crimes were committed. He then turned away from police and started running, according to officers.

A foot-chase ensued along Medical Drive and the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center parking lot. Lugo-Sanchez then ran into an office building at 1566 Medical Drive and ran upstairs. Officers from Pottstown, Limerick, North Coventry and West Pottsgrove were then called to the scene to set up a perimeter around the building.

Police told workers in the building to lock themselves in their offices while police searched the building for Lugo-Sanchez.

Police confronted Lugo-Sanchez exiting the elevator in the main lobby and he was arrested. Police said he refused to be handcuffed.

Once in custody, police filed charges including resisting arrest, institutional vandalism and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned on March 2 before District Judge Juanita A. Price and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 16 before District Judge Edward C. Kropp. Bail was set at $5,000 cash.
