Kids learn about the Good Old Days at Daniel Boone Homestead

Children’s Day Sheep & Wool Program: Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

-

Travel back in time for a fun-filled afternoon of hands-on activities and 18th-century demonstrations for children and their families on Saturday, May 6, at the Daniel Boone Homestead. Children will learn about Daniel’s mother Sarah Boone as they help tend the Homestead garden and make butter.

Volunteers will offer guided tours of the Boone House and the Bertolet Log House throughout the event. Candle dipping will be available for families to try, and visitors will witness the hard work of the blacksmith. Volunteers will teach children how to write with a quill pen; after that, children can expend some energy playing with old fashioned toys and games. Young and old visitors will learn all about textile processing, including taking raw wool and flax and turning it into cloth. As part of the demonstration, a local sheep shearer will shear the Homestead’s six sheep. Volunteers will spin wool and describe weaving in the Oley Valley during the eighteenth century.

Admission for Children’s Day is $7/adult, $4/children ages 5-15, under 5 are free! Please no pets and no smoking. This program is sponsored and run by the Friends of the Daniel Boone Homestead.
