Three of four Pottsgrove School Board candidates won both party nominations on the ballot in last week’s primary election, meaning the November election will primarily be a contest between two incumbents — Rick Rabinowitz and Robert Lindgren.

School Board President Matt Alexander was the top voter getter with a total of 900 votes, 510 on the Republican side and 370 on the Democratic side, according to unofficial results.

Newcomer Scott Hutt came in a close second with 898 votes, 542 on the Republican side and 356 on the Democratic side.

And another newcomer, Charles Nippert, came in third with 796 votes, 401 on the Republican side and 595 on the Democratic side.

Both Nippert and Hutt had applied for the open school board seat for which Lindgren was ultimately chosen by the school board last year.

Now he will have to beat Rabinowitz to stay on the board.

Rabinowitz won the fourth Democratic ballot line with 402 votes to Lindren’s 267.

And Lindgren won the fourth Republican line with 477 votes to Rabinowitz’s 350 votes.

Because school board seats are considered nonpartisan, Pennsylvania election law allows candidates to run on both party ballots, so those three who won both lines — Alexander, Hutt and Nippert — are considered most likely to win the election in November, when votes on both lines will be added up for a total.
