Bear Cubs take winners’ bracket

The Boyertown Bear Cubs continued their unbeaten run through the Berks County American Jr. Legion playoffs with a 5-1 win over West Lawn to claim the winners’ bracket on Wednesday, July 12.

Pat Wieand struck out nine hitters in five innings to pick up the win before Tre Diguglielm­o closed out the final two frames.

Broc Babb finished with three hits — including a triple — with two RBI while Daniel Goffredo had a double and two RBI. Hunter Ewing added a pair of hits and two runs scored.

Boyertown’s Daniel Goffredo, Patrick Wieand, Gavin Richards and Sammy Legerton each finished with two hits as the Bear Cubs routed Daniel Boone in the second round of the Berks County Junior Legion playoffs Tuesday night.

Henderson, Kyle Jackson, and Legerton added two RBIs in support of Richards’ day on the bump. Richards threw five strong innings, allowing two hits, two runs (zero earned) and striking out three. Tre Diguglielm­o pitched two innings of shut-out relief. Kyle Jackson threw a complete game, no-hitter with nine strikeouts to lead the Bear Cubs to a victory in the first round of the Berks County playoffs.

Only one runner reached base via walk. Hunter Ewing had two RBI while Daniel Goffredo had two hits and an RBI. Patrick Wieand added a RBI in the win.

Rosario LaSpina hit a grand slam and had five RBI to lead the Indians to the rout.

Brett Leister had three hits and four RBI in the win.
