One injured in bicycle-car crash
POTTSTOWN » An accident July 20 left one man injured after a vehicle and a motorized bicycle collided.
Around 4:30 p.m. July 20, Pottstown police responded to the intersection of Beech and Manatawny streets for a report of an accident, according to a press release issued July 21. Upon arrival, police determined that the accident involved a Lincoln Town Car heading southbound on Manatawny Street and a motorized bicycle that turned from Beech Street to go northbound on Manatawny Street.
Police identified the driver of the motorized bicycle as Jamar McDaniels.
An investigation showed that McDaniels passed a stopped vehicle at the stop sign on Beech Street, passing on the left and turning right, police said. MacDaniels then entered the southbound lane of Manatawny Street and was struck by an oncoming vehicle operated by Charleen Colman. Police said Colman was in the southbound lane and attempted to stop but was unable to avoid McDaniels.
Reports from a photographer on the scene indicate the force of the crash tore the front wheel off the bicycle and left the vehicle with a dented hood and smashed windshield on the driver side.
McDaniels was transported by Goodwill Ambulance to the Pottstown Airport, where he loaded onto a waiting medical helicopter to be transported to Reading Hospital Trauma Center. He was listed in stable condition.
No other injuries were reported.
