POTTSTOWN » One down and one to go.

Pottstown School District Superintendent Stephen Rodriguez announced the selection last week of Brian Hostetler as the new principal of Pottstown Middle School.

He replaces David Todd, who resigned at the end of the school year after weathering a difficult year in which parents, teachers and even administrators grappled with a series of complaints about student behavior in the middle school — and outside of it — and how it was being handled.

“It is my pleasure to recommend Brian Hostetler as our

new Middle School Principal. He has experience at the middle school, high school, and elementary school level, making him a perfect fit to lead our middle school,” Rodriguez said in a statement emailed to The Mercury.

“Brian is a relationship builder who is passionate about student success,” he wrote. “We are excited to have him join our team.”

Hostetler’s appointment will not be official until approved by a vote of the school board.

Hostetler was not immediately available for comment.

According Hostetler’s resume, he most recently served for two years as the principal of Hamilton Heights Elementary School in Chambersburg.

Prior to that, he spent three years as the associate principal at Chambersburg Senior High School and for the four years prior to that was assistant principal at the same high school.

Hostetler also worked as a health and physical education teacher in the Owen J. Roberts School District from 2001 until 2008.

A 2001 graduate of Penn State, Hostetler received a masters in educational leadership and his principal’s certificate from Immaculata University in 2008.

In 2014, he earned his superintendent’s letter of eligibility from Shippensburg University.

Rodriguez said the school district is still interviewing for a replacement for Matthew Boyer, the grade 5-6 principal at the middle school, who also resigned at the end of the school year after accepting a post as the new principal of Pottsgrove Middle School in May.

“He has experience at the middle school, high school, and elementary school level, making him a perfect fit to lead our middle school.” — Stephen Rodriguez, Pottstown Schools Superintendent
