Grosstown Road bridge project nearly complete
WEST POTTSGROVE » Work to replace the old Grosstown Road Bridge over Manatawny Creek is getting closer to completion.
Township Manager Craig Lloyd told the township commissioners recently that the project is expected to be completed by the end of November or early December.
If temperature remains above 32 degrees so contractors can pour concrete, the bridge should be finished by Dec. 4, according to township commissioners’ Vice Chairman Tom Palladino.
Construction began in August and is one of the 558 bridges in Pennsylvania, and one of five in Montgomery County, being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project at a cost of $899 million. No specific cost for the Grosstown Road Bridge project was available.
It is a joint-venture partnership between Walsh/ Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project, and PennDOT.
Under the agreement Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners will finance, design, replace and maintain all the bridges for 25 years. This approach allows PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impact on motorists, according to a post on the township web site.
During construction, drivers have been detoured six miles down West High Street to Manatawny Street.
The lane width on the new bridge will be 11 feet, wider than the 10-foot width on the old bridge, which has already been removed.
