MCCC to share workforce development information
POTTSTOWN » Montgomery County Community College is hosting an open house and symposium focused on its Workforce Development program.
The event, scheduled for Thursday, March 1, is being held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the college’s Workforce Development building, 95 S. Hanover St. in Pottstown.
It’s the first time the college has done an open house focused on these initiatives, according to David DIMATTIO, MCCC’s vice president of Workforce Development and Continuing Education.
“It’s brand new and we are intentionally doing it in Pottstown because we recently relocated the offices to Pottstown,” he said. “We wanted to announce to both the Pottstown region and the county that workforce development is alive and well at MCCC.”
During the open house, attendees will have the chance to learn about the college’s customized training courses, Fast-Track to Employment programs and professional development opportunities.
In addition, they will have a chance to participate in one-hour information sessions about the workforce development programs offered by MCCC.
The sessions include a wide array of programs: Computer Networks and Security, OSHA, Building Inspection, Personal Finance and more, according to DIMATTIO.
“Individuals can sign up for modular sessions, and get experience in one of the areas we offer in workforce development,” he said. “People can come to experience one or all of the sessions and be motivated to explore what the college has to offer.”
DIMATTIO said each session will present information from the actual classroom module.
“They will be in an experience similar to what they would experience in the classroom — it’s real world learning,” he added.
DIMATTIO said the day is meant for a wide variety of audiences including business and industry representatives that want to explore the modules and classrooms, as well as community members.

DIMATTIO was appointed to his post in September 2017, after serving as vice president for the West Campus since 2016 and having also served as the college’s dean of the STEM division.
At the same time, it was announced that the Workforce Development initiative would relocate to the former University Center building on MCCC’s West Campus in Pottstown.
Montgomery County Community College’s Fast Track to Employment programs can be completed in less than one year. The programs are designed for individuals looking to transition to a new industry or career.
In addition, the college’s Workforce Development department offers a variety of industry certification programs, and works closely with employers to create customized training solutions for their employees.
