State Rep. Tim Hennessey, a 25-year veteran of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, has announced that he will seek another term representing the 26th legislative district.

The district is based almost entirely in northern Chester County, with a small portion of the borough of Pottstown also included.

Currently, Hennessey is the chairman of the House Aging and Older Adult Services committee and his announcement focused almost entirely on his efforts to help senior citizens.

Among his accomplishments he listed being “instrumental in preventing the Pennsylvania Department of Aging from being merged into the gargantuan Department of Health and Human Services.”

As a result, he said in his announcement, “the voice of seniors will remain strong and independent, not a diminished part of a much larger agency.”

Hennessey’s release said he “has authored a comprehensive proposal to revamp the Older Adult Protective Services Act, the first major revision of the statute in nearly 30 years.”

Hennessey’s release said his position as chairman allows him to “keep a close eye on the Pennsylvania Lottery Fund, to assure that the monies raised for programs which help our elderly, are not siphoned of for other government spending.”

He also touted his office’s constituent services record.

“We’ve matched veterans with medical coverage they did not know about, and in one case tripled a veteran’s monthly pension benefits,” his release quoted him as saying.

“We’ve connected claimants with their unemployment benefits, even while our state labor agency is mired in dysfunction,” he said.

Hennessey is also a member of the House Transportation Committee, and is the chairman of the Steel Caucus and House Irish Caucus.

He is opposed in the general election by at least one Democrat.

Earlier this month, East Vincent resident and electrician Pam Hacker announced her candidacy for the seat.

The 26th House District includes the following Chester County communities: North Coventry, South Coventry, East Coventry, East Vincent, East Nantmeal, West Nantmeal, Warwick, Elverson, Honey Brook Borough, Honey Brook Township, Wallace, West Caln and West Sadsbury.
