LOWER POTTSGROVE » Two people were injured following a crash March 9.

Lower Pottsgrove Police responded to the 900 block of Bleim Road for a report of a vehicle rescue. Officers arrived to find a one-vehicle crash in which a vehicle had crashed into a utility pole.

The driver, Kyeim Enam Shawell-Garlington, 18, of Pottstown, was found to be conscious and alert, police said. The juvenile passenger was found to be unconscious and trapped in the vehicle.

The accident investigation found the operator was traveling west on Bleim Road at a high rate of speed. The operator lost control of the vehicle after improperly passing another vehicle, causing it to skid across the eastbound lanes and strike an embankment, police said. After striking the embankment, the vehicle continued sideways until striking the utility pole on the passenger door and coming to a stop, according to police.

The pole caused major damage to the vehicle.

Goodwill Ambulance and several area fire companies arrived and extricated the passenger. Both occupants were transported to area hospitals for their injuries. The vehicle involved was a 2001 Saturn sedan, police said.

The driver was issued several traffic citations, police said. The juvenile passenger was issued a citation for underage drinking, police said.
