BOYERTOWN 11, MUHLENBERG 2 » It may have been the first game of the year, but the Boyertown baseball team appeared to be in mid-season form Saturday, March 31.

With Austyn Levengood and Caleb Harrison sparking the offense, the Bears handled Muhlenberg in a non-conference showing. They proved particularly opportunistic against the host Muhls, scoring five unearned runs in the top of the fifth to erase Muhlenberg’s initial 2-1 lead.

Levengood was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three steals, and Harrison was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Mitchell Peers and A.J. Kline each drove in pairs of runs for Boyertown, which capped their day with a fiverun seventh at-bat.

Drew Hartman, pitching 2-2/3 innings in relief of starter Mike Hohlfeld, got the win off his one-hit, threestrikeout performance. Boyertown’s four pitchers seeing action — Gavin Henderson and Jared Waldman closed out in relief — combined to fan nine and limit the Muhls to six hits.

Jake Kuczawa went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Dean Light doubled for Muhlenberg, which sustained its first loss of the season.
