COLEBROOKDALE » The superintendent of the Juniata County School District has been identified as the leading candidate to head Boyertown schools.

School Board President Donna Usavage made the announcement at

April 10’s board meeting and said board members have already visited the district headed by Keith Yarger to speak with the community there about his leadership.

Usavage said 25 people applied for the superintendent’s position and the board initially interviewed six candidates.

That was narrowed to three and Yarger was identified as “the lead candidate,” she said.

He is now a finalist and will visit the district on April 23. The public invited to meet him and offer feedback to the board

Details about his visit will be posted on school district website.

Kristine Parkes, head of district communications, said the visit will be promoted on social media, Facebook and Twitter. Building principals will also include weekly newsletter blasts and on their social media.

Boyertown is not the only place Yarger was looking for a new job.

According to an August 2017 article in the Hazleton Standard Speaker, Yarger was one of five finalists identified to lead the Hazleton Area School District.

If chosen, he will replace Richard Faidley who was appointed last July to head the Wilson School District.

Faidley was appointed Boyertown’s superintendent in July

2013. His contract at that time took effect beginning August 2013 and ending on July 31, 2017.

In March 2016, the Boyertown School Board approved a new contract from Faidley, extending his term to June 2020. His salary when he left was $185,661.

Former Pottstown Schools Superintendent David Krem, who retired in 2012 from the Wyomissing School District, came out of retirement to serve as interim superintendent while the board searched for a replacement for Faidley.

Krem, who is being paid $800 per day by Boyertown, served as superintendent of Pottstown School District from 2005 to 2010. He first came to Pottstown as the principal of Edgewood Elementary School, and then switched to the role of director of pupil services.

From Pottstown, he moved onto serve as superintendent in Wyomissing for two years until announcing his retirement in 2012.

Krem’s time in Boyertown ends on June 30.
