Weeks working wonders for South Carolina-Aiken baseball

- By Bill Arsenault

Daulton Weeks is having a big year with the South Carolina-Aiken baseball team and he has the statistics to back up that statement.

Senior third baseman Weeks, a Boyertown Area grad, leads the Pacers in hitting (.353), doubles (15), home runs (14) and runs batted in (56). He’s tied for first in runs scored with 48 and has stolen 10 of 13 bases. At the hot corner, Weeks has made 10 errors on 113 chances with six double plays. He’s second in the Peach Blossom Conference in slugging percentage (.678) and total bases (124), tied for second in home runs and fifth in runs batted in. And, he’s near the top in Division II in two categories – tied for 10th in total bases and tied for 12th in runs batted in.

“I love watching him compete – that’s the one thing you know you will always get from him,” coach Kenny Thomas said. “He is one of the best defensive third basemen I have ever had and that I didn’t expect. He loves the game and plays it with passion.”

Weeks spent two seasons at Harford Junior College in Bel Air, Md. and led the Fighting Owls to a 5411 record and a trip to the Junior College World Series in 2016, hitting .365 with 21 home runs.

When Weeks joined the Pacers last season, Thomas was a little wary about him.

“Daulton is a quiet giant and he doesn’t say much during practice or games,” the coach said. “I remember when he first got here, the first couple of practices I thought to myself, ‘Is he even awake?’ But then I started watching him field ground balls and knew he was.”
