Boyertown Bears eliminated by Daniel Boone, 8-2

Its season isn’t over ... just on an unplanned hiatus.
Boyertown’s American Legion baseball team found itself closed out of the Berks County League playoffs Saturday. Daniel Boone administered the finishing blow in their losers’ bracket game at West Lawn, scoring an 8-2 victory to move itself into Sunday’s championship-qualifier field.
With five runs in the sixth inning, Boone expanded a 3-2 lead enough to keep its season alive. The Bears, in the meantime, will have to wait for the Pa. State Tournament they will be hosting July 28 to see game action.
Boone pulled away for good with three runs in the fourth inning. Tim Richard singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run, and Josh Piccarreta tripled to plate another two.
Chase Lacey’s RBI double led the Mavriks’ run production in the sixth.
Brett Goodrich pitched a complete game for DB, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out four and walking one. Gavin Richards started the game for Boyertown, yielding five hits and three runs over five innings with four strikeouts before Drew Hartman and AJ Kline finished up.
The Mavriks racked up 12 hits. Piccarreta had three and Matt Stevens another multiple-hit effort.

The purpose being the furthest advancement possible in the Berks County League playoffs. And because it’s done so, Daniel Boone’s American Legion baseball team finds itself playing for the circuit championship.
Since a 4-3 loss to Oley Post 217 in last Wednesday’s opening round, the Mavriks have been dispatching the opposition each day. Sunday, they repaid Oley for the lone blemish on their tournament record by eliminating Post 217, 5-3, at West Lawn.
Boone, which came into the post-season as the league’s third seed from the East Division, spotted the West’s second seed all its runs in the second inning. But the Mavriks answered with four in the third before adding insurance in the sixth.
In Boone’s big inning, Matt Stevens singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. An error enabled the Mavriks to plate another run before Brett Goodrich and Josh Piccarreta followed with RBI singles.
Jeb Kurtz went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Boone in hits.
John Dinnocenti pitched a complete game for the Mavriks, scattering eight hits and striking out two in his seven-inning stint.
In the wake of its opening-round loss, Boone had prevailed over Shillington (forfeit, 7-0) and Boyertown (8-2) prior to the rematch with Oley. It was slated take on the host Owls for the league championship, with a berth in the Pa. Region Two tournament at stake. Boyertown third baseman Shayn Horrocks throws to first base for an out against Exeter Wednesday.
WEST LAWN 10, NORCHESTER 3 » The Bulldogs were unable to make an early lead hold up against the Owls, and they found themselves eliminated from the Berks County League playoffs in the championship-qualifier round.
Norchester, the East Division’s top seed, did all its scoring in its first at-bat. West Lawn answered with a three-spot in the bottom of the frame, then pulled away with four more in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth.
Brian and Jordan Siket and Austin Odell drove in the Norchester runs, with Austyn Levengood and Jack McLaughlin having two-hit days. Brad Pryor took the pitching loss for the `Dogs, touched for five of West Lawn’s runs and three of its hits.
