POTTSTOWN » July 4 may be over, but GoFourth! is still celebrating with an event at the Carousel at Pottstown on Aug. 12 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

“Due to the rain on July 4 we had to postpone the crowning of the GoFourth! Royal Court,” Amy Francis, co-chairperson of the GoFourth! Festival committee, wrote in an email.

The event, at 30 W. King St., will crown a King, Queen, and Princess.

The original idea for the event was for the homecoming King and Queen that bring in the most money to be named the Pottstown GoFourth! King and Queen. The second highest earning King would be named the Prince, and the second highest earning Queen would become the Princess.

This year, Pottstown’s Homecoming Queen Julia Day and Pottsgrove’s Homecoming Queen Tiffany Harris White were in the July 4 parade. Pottstown’s Homecoming King Anthony Wiggins was unable to attend the parade but will join the crowning, according to Francis.

The 2017 4th of July Queen Angelina Olvera was also in the parade.

“We have invited the mascot from the winning Queen and King district to participate in the crowning, along with Amy Wolf and myself,” Francis said.

While there was money raised by those being crowned, Francis said she hopes by starting the fundraiser earlier next year, more can be accumulated.

“Since it was our first attempt at re-establishing and broadening this contest we are confident that it will become a much bigger fundraiser for the festival in years to come,” Francis said.

Photos from the GoFourth! Festival, taken by Ron Adelberg from Ron Adelberg Photography in West Chester, will be on display.

There will be a GoFourth! merchandise table as well. T-shirts, blankets, and hats will be sold at a “discounted price” of $10 each, according to Francis.

A silent auction will also take place. Basket donations are currently being collected, according to Francis.

“One thing included will be a pair of Philadelphia Phillies tickets,” Francis said.

Light refreshments will be served, according to the Facebook post.

The carousel will be running throughout the night, according to Jim Arms, president of the Carousel at Pottstown. Tickets will be sold at $1 a ride.

“(The Carousel at Pottstown is) a very supportive community partner of GoFourth! and we’re very grateful that they offered their beautiful facility for us to hold the crowning of the 2018 Pottstown GoFourth! Festival Royal Court,” Francis said. “It’s such a great place. We love the Carousel at Pottstown.”

There are upcoming events for GoFourth!, too. In the fall, there will be a fundraiser. The committee will also be hosting a Holiday Historic House Tour as a fundraiser in December, according to Francis.

Tax-deductible donations can be made by donating online at PottstownGoFourth.org or by sending a check made payable to the TriCounty Community Network (TCN), with “Attention: GoFourth” as the memo. Checks should be sent to Pottstown GoFourth! Festival, PO Box 1362, Pottstown PA 19464.
