Gallery reception for Robbie Pepper at Penn State Berks

- From Marilyn J. Fox Freyberger Gallery Director

In commemorating the 60th anniversary of Penn State Berks, a special interactive display in the gallery is presented at the Freyberger Gallery, Perkins Student Center, Penn State Berks, running through December 2018.

Called “Transitions,” artist Robbie Pepper has created life size cut-outs that one can enter and participate. Utilizing campus historic and contemporary photos as inspiration, this installation takes the viewer on a delightful trip of our history. Perfect for selfies and group photos, this project allows one to transition back in time to our first campus building, which was located in Wyomissing; be part of an electrical engineering lab; celebrate the symbolic first ground breaking of our education building; and sit in on a few classes.

A reception to meet the artist will be held Thursday Sept. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Gallery hours beginning Sept. 6: Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday evenings through 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday noon to 4 p.m.

About the Artist:

Robbie Pepper began his career in his native Manchester, England, as a street artist, creating realistic chalk drawings of celebrities. When he migrated to the United States, he began creating murals, theatrical set designs, portraits, and other commercial art and fine art.

After selecting several iconic photos from the last six decades at Penn State Berks, he took to creating life-sized, realistic displays that take the viewer through our history. These displays allow visitors to take a walk back in time through the college’s history.
