Boyertown junior McComb wins Northampto­n Invitation­al

Christian McComb headed the boys field in the Northampto­n Invitation­al Saturday, running a solid 5,000 to best a finishing order of more than 200 competitor­s.

McComb covered the course in 16:00.59, leading Easton Area runner-up Joseph Ozgar (16:10.81) by more than 10 seconds. The Boyertown junior led his team’s seventh place (173 points) showing in the 31-school field, which included teammate Tyler Reigner’s 24th place (17:07.35) effort.

The Bears’ other top finishers were John Black (38th), Zachary Raugh (48th) and Eric Muthersbau­gh (62nd). Central Bucks East was the boys’ team champion by one point (93-34) over Easton.

Pope John Paul II was 11th among the boys, with Upper Perkiomen 15th. Jack Phillips was PJP’s top runner, placing 31st, while UP was led by Lance Templeton’s 60th-place showing.

On the girls’ side, PJP’s Gianna Cagliola ran a 20;24.05 good for 17th place. The Golden Panthers placed 11th among 25 teams with help from Kayla Croiger (31st) and Natalie Florig (52nd).

Boyertown placed 19th in the team standings with Madalyn Hunsberger coming in 32nd. UP’s Serena Detweiler placed 43rd.
