World renowned vocalist/ guitarist Phyllis Chappell to perform in Hamburg
World renowned vocalist/guitarist Phyllis Chappell will bring an international repertoire of music to the Hamburg Strand Theater on Nov. 18.
Chappell has spent her life developing a universal musical style, singing “world songs” in 13 languages from Brazil, Latin America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, as well as American folk, jazz, and popular music. She also has a repertoire of award winning original songs.
Performing in concert at the Carnegie Hall in New York City, The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, and countless other venues and festivals throughout the country, she has gained notoriety for her talents. She has also performed in Brazil, Latin America and Europe.
Chapell has been named one of the top jazz vocalists of all time by Scott Yanow (Down Beat, Jazz Times, and AllMusicGuide). She is primarily a solo artist but loves collaboration with other musicians. John T. Bailey, a native Hamburg musician and singer, will be joining her at the Hamburg Strand telling stories and playing music from his days of hitchhiking across America.
The show is Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Strand Theater located at 6 S. 4th St. in downtown Hamburg. Doors open at 12:30 pm, the show begins at 1 pm. A wine and cheese reception will follow the show allowing attendees to converse with the performers. Ticket price is $13 in advance and $15 at the door.
