Forty years of service to your community is no small feat, especially when a lot of that work is behind the scenes.

Community leaders acknowledged that dedication recently when they honored Pottstown resident Jimmy Frymoyer for more than four decades of community service.

“I had the great opportunity right after I took office to meet Jimmy and see what he has done for the Pottstown community over the last 40 years,” said State Rep. Joe Ciresi. “Everyone in this room knows what Jimmy has done. He’s one of the unsung heroes who asks for nothing in return. He’s helped the people of Pottstown, children, thousands of them over the last 40 years.”

Ciresi was joined by State Sen. Bob Mensch, Johnny Corson, president of the NAACP Pottstown Chapter, Bishop Everett Debnam and staff from the YMCA and Dana Corp. in honoring Frymoyer on Thursday at the Pottstown YMCA.

Fy moyer has been helping the community for 40 years, most notably with his organization of a yearly holiday party for children, which he has been organizing for 36 years.

“I was lucky enough to get involved last year with the holiday project. Through Jim’s effort we were able to provide over 300 gifts for children in Pottstown and provide food baskets so that families can have something to eat on Christmas for 175 families,” said Chuck Gulati, owner of Sunnybrook Ballroom. “If it wasn’t for Jim, 300 kids wouldn’t have had those gifts last year and 175 families wouldn’t have had that food.”

Frymoyer was presented with certificates as each person discussed his service over the years.

And Frymoyer isn’t resting on his laurels either.

The annual holiday party for children will be held again in December for the 37th year. It will take place on Dec. 14 with food delivery happening on the 20th. Planning is underway and volunteers are needed.

“You don’t do things to be in the limelight. You do it because you care about your community, you care about the kids. There’s so many things I could say... To all of you that showed up here today, I am totally appreciative,” Frymoyer said, holding back tears.
