Report details concerns about new voting machines
NORRISTOWN >> Montgomery County has issued a report detailing the feedback received from poll workers, voters, the public and employees on their experience with the new voting system first used in the May primary election and the actions being taken to address their concerns.
Montgomery County implemented a new voter-marked balloting system with a verifiable paper trail that can be used for audits and recounts to meet a state mandate that all counties in the Commonwealth have such a system in place for the 2020 elections.
The feedback was collected via survey forms, emails, letters, calls, and in-person communications from Election Day through June 26.
From over 700 responses, the three main concerns were: length of the voting process, privacy and education.
• Solutions to the length of the voting process include providing additional scanners in select precincts, turning off warning messages for undervotes and increased training and education.
• Limiting the number of people permitted in the area where voters fill out their ballot, and increasing the number of privacy booths and privacy folders are among the steps that will be taken to address privacy concerns.
• Increased training and educational opportunities and materials will be provided leading up to the November election and for subsequent elections.
